This is a tutor supported, in-service training program designed to provide a strong foundation to the knowledge, skills and attitudes needed for success as a person committed to supporting individuals with disabilities and their families to live their lives.

The learning objectives have been aligned with the skills,
competencies, attitudes and values identified as required by the
research done in Workforce 2010. www.workforce2010.com

It has application to both entry and intermediate level staff. Successful completion of the Foundations Program of study will result in participants receiving a certificate from the Alberta Council of Disability Services (ACDS). Alberta Colleges that offer a program in Disability Studies are reviewing the program and will be able to offer you credit for your learning. Please contact your local college for details.

For a good website on information on the process of receiving credit
for learning outside of the post-secondary system please check out
www.recognitionforlearning.com then contact your local college!

Learners have a maximum of 16 months, from the date of their registration to complete the program. Some organizations may set their own time frames, but it is highly recommended that this be no less than 6 months to allow for a quality learning experience that allows time for application of the knowledge. We fully expect one year to be a sufficient timeframe in which to complete the program.
